Hello, everyone! Long time, no post. I'm sorry about that. I hope this post finds you warm and well and working away at your winter mapping projects. This winter has been a season of transition for me, personally, as I have moved from mapping living collections at a public garden to mapping a seemingly more diverse and infinite collection of assets for the Virginia Department of Transportation. In my new role with VDOT, the geospatial information-gathering spans stop signs, bicycle trails, bridges, stormwater best management practices, and more.
But that does mean that I will have even less time than before to dedicate to this germinating community of Public Gardens New(er) GIS Users. I'm hoping some of you might be willing to log in to Esri Community more - start asking questions, writing posts, and engaging with each other. Not only will you learn from others and support your colleagues ... but keep in mind that contributions to this community can be counted towards your portfolio for the GIS Certification Institute's GISP certification.
I'm eternally grateful for the Esri Non-Profit Program, the program reps and technical support, my GIS instructors, mentors, and colleagues, plus each and every one of you who helped me as I took the maps for Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden from paper to GIS. I've included some screenshots of the organization's stops along that journey below. Take a peek at our current map hosted through ArcGIS online: LGBG Bed Codes.
If you happen to be attending the Esri Federal GIS Conference next week (February 24-26, 2025) in Washington, D.C., maybe we'll run into each other!
I know there are some excited and energetic new(er) GIS users out there. I hope to see some of you posting and enjoying this Esri Community, formed just for you!
