mapserver wms not displaying layers

Hi,
I'm trying to add a wms server to arcmap 10.
I've successfully added the mapserver wms, however the images in the layers are not displaying. I just get a blank canvas.
I'm just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction. ie. what I need to be looking at to get this problem solved.

I can get the layer to load into QGIS but not arcmap 10.
Any ideas?

Try running Fiddler or other network monitor before you start ArcMap and add the service. It should show the URL being called and a result code. You can examine the URL to see where there might be an error. Note that UMN MapServer is not OGC compliant, so it may not recognize the calls from ArcGIS products.
