Hi everyone,

I work for The Rivers Trust which is a registered environmental charity in the UK & Ireland, dedicated to protecting and improving river environments for the benefit of people and wildlife. We work at a landscape scale (not just focusing on the river channel) using the Catchment Based Approach to address pollution, plastic and climate change. Data and evidence underpins all of our work and we use Esri technology in a variety of ways to collect and analyse data, as well as to communicate and inform. We are big fans of ArcGIS StoryMaps‌ and ArcGIS Hub‌ especially.

I'm looking forward to finding out more about how other non-profit organisations are using Esri technology to support their work and hoping there will be opportunities to share knowledge and ideas. Perhaps there might even be a way to share templates in the future?

Hey Anneka France‌ thanks for introducing yourself! Yes, I think sharing templates is a great use for this space. Here are a few recent updates that make it easier to share information.

  • The ArcGIS Solutions team released a web app - this means you don't need to go into ArcGIS Pro to deploy a solution.
  • The ArcGIS StoryMaps team released the ability to duplicate a StoryMap. This can make it easier for you to have one template you work off for similar stories or projects.

you can also share the initiative template & solution item that is generated when you click "Convert to template" from the Hub editor. since they're items, you can form groups in ArcGIS Online and share privately or publicly and be searchable from the gallery.

the solution editor in Hub allows you to pull in most common web GIS app types--Dashboards, Survey123 Forms, Webmaps, StoryMaps. It's a bit technical but you can package items and share them https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-hub/constituent-engagement/how-to-create-templates-...

Thank you for the invitation to join.  I look forward to contributing to and benefiting from this resource.

My name is Jovian Sackett and I am the Director of Geospatial Science for the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC).  SELC has primarily been an ArcGIS Desktop user, but over the last five years we has expanded the reach of our services to our staff to harness ArcGIS Online serving applications, in addition to print maps we have always done.

Hello everyone, I'm Scott Kaplan. I'm the volunteer Manager for the Civil Air Patrol's GIS Program.

Looking at the categories, I would recommend adding another folder for Disaster Response. There are numerous Non-Profit orgs that support that area, ex. CAP, Red Cross, GISCorps, NAPSG, etc. that use ESRI products and or work with the ESRI Disaster Response Team. It would also allow other organizations that are active in that area, or those who would like to become so, to collaborate as well.

Thanks for the invite 🙂

V/r,

Scott

Hello,  I'm co-founder and president of a small organization that supports a regional bike trail and advocates for bikeable/walkable/livable places, policies and infrastructure.    Thank you for setting up this area.  As a small organization we appreciate guidance in the understanding the simplest way to get our maps and story maps done, and also how to manage cost.   We also be happy to learn if there are other groups related to our cause.  Thank you.

Hello everyone and thanks for the invite Rebecca!  I'm a volunteer for Headwaters Land Conservancy in Northeast Lower Michigan, USA.  I'm a retired engineer and self taught in GIS thanks to ESRI Training!  I'm currently working on prioritizing private land parcels for permanent protection.  Hence, I'm most interested in conservation/environmental GIS topics.

Thanks to ESRI for their great support of non-profits!

Hey James! Great to have you, and so impressive to learn you are self-taught. I think you would also probably enjoy being a part of the https://community.esri.com/groups/conservationtech space. Lots of great user stories there.

This is Jack Henderson. I currently work for the River Management Society (RMS). We're a national membership-based, non-profit organization dedicated to connecting those who work on and for rivers with their river professional peers, along with providing tools to assist those who manage, protect and recreate on rivers. Our diverse membership includes outfitters and guides, rangers, planners and landscape architects, fluvial geomorphologists, environmental lawyers and policymakers, students, professors, researchers and authors.

I current lead the National River Recreation Database and National Rivers Project.  The National River Recreation Database is a geospatial portfolio of information on Wild & Scenic Rivers, water trails, whitewater rivers, access points and campgrounds within the United States. The National Rivers Project is the website serving to help identify, explore and plan trips on rivers within the database. Together, comprehensive river recreation and management information is provided for paddlers and resource managers. The full project is hosted and maintained through Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. I'll departing my post on this project at the end of August, but we've hired a new person to coordinate the project, and he's aware of this Esri resource.

I also do a variety of conservation GIS consulting work in western North Carolina, where I live. I'm thankful to be part  of this group! Feel free to reach out any time.

Hello Jack - nice to make your acquaintance and to learn about the River Management Society and the National Rivers Project - what a wonderful resource and the map provides a fascinating and unique view of our amazing river system.  I'm president of the St Johns River-to-Sea Loop Alliance  - an ambitious  260-mile emerging bike trail that mostly follows the route of the St Johns River from near Titusuville, FL north. We cherish our river and understand the importance of your ambitious project.   I can see it's a work in progress with a lot of related partners and would love to learn more about the process and background.  Of course many of our great cycle paths follow rivers and I'd love a way to connect with the support groups for these trails and to strengthen the connection of trails to rivers.  maggie@river2sealoop.org
