People often ask what our office does. Here's a great example of our digital mapping and GIS resources in use during February's Ohio River flooding. In addition to traditional paper maps, we provide online maps, topography and contour data, floodplain data, and customized map services for E-911 / First Responders. Our office captured Ohio River flooding footage using our Yuneec UAV (drone). In a pinch, the extent of the flooding can be recorded on a paper map (with contour lines) to better understand the extent of flooding that happens at various river levels, in this case 60.5 ft. The photos and videos were taken with our drone, which is licensed, insured, and operated by an FAA Part 107 licensed pilot. Check out the FAA's "KnowBeforeYouFly" website for drone rules and regulations. You can get into serious trouble with the FAA using drones inappropriately, or in prohibited airspace. # awesomepoweredbyLINKGIS

KAMP President Louis Hill and KAMP President-Elect Stephen Chino (also a PLS) representing the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals as an exhibitor at this year's Kentucky Association of Professional Surveyors (KAPS) conference in Owensboro, KY. KAPS is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and KAMP is celebrating its 15th anniversary. KAPS has been an invaluable supporter of KAMP since the beginning. The working relationship between surveyors and GIS professionals is better in Kentucky than in many other states. One way that we support each other is by providing complimentary booth space at each other's conferences.

LINK-GIS has been tracking several Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) over the past 18 months. This infographic highlights several important measures of the services we have provided during calendar year 2017. The measures of these services include website hits, number map requests completed (public and private sector clients), total volume of digital data requests, non-contract digital data sales, and total enterprise database footprint. The 2017 information will serve as our baseline as we continue to provide our mapping and analysis services to our partners, agencies and citizens in 2018.

Campbell County Watersheds Watersheds are areas of land that drain to a particular stream, river, or lake. They can also be called drainage basins or catchments. Watersheds are separated by ridges and hills that are called divides. A watershed consists of surface water—lakes, streams, reservoirs, and wetlands—and all the underlying ground water. Campbell County sits within the Ohio River Watershed, which spans 13 states, and covers 203,940 square miles. More than 25 million people live within its drainage area. Healthy watersheds are important because they provide habitat for plants and animals and recreational opportunities, drinking water, and aesthetic beauty for our communities. Streams and creeks flow downhill without regard for political boundaries. By using watershed’s natural boundaries, issues concerning flooding, stormwater runoff, and water pollution are addressed from within the contributing area. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) created a hierarchical system of hydrologic units. Each unit is assigned a unique Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC), from 2 to 12 digits long; they are called regions, subregions, basins, subbasins, watersheds, and subwatersheds. This Story Map and the accompanying interactive map explores Campbell County’s 12-digit HUC subwatersheds. Arrows are color-coded to show the subwatersheds along with the flow direction of surface water. POSTSCRIPT: The Story Map of which this illustration is a part may be found here. By the end of this Story Map experience, viewers will have a better understanding of watersheds in Campbell County.
