Arc 10, I am using OpenStreetMap and when zooming out, the less significant detail will disappear which is as it should be but however it seems a little extreme in that minor rural roads will not show up unless really magnified,ie the only object on the screen. This makes my maps look like I need an ATV to get around parts of my routes as there are customers located along 'imaginary' lines when in fact the roads do exist on the network. Is there a way I can set the degree of detail showing or simpler still show all detail irrespective of the magnification as I need to see all detail.

David,
this is set by the people who created the OpenStreetMap (which is not ESRI). OpenStreetMap
The only thing you could do is add your own street layer on top of the basemap.
