Summary ArcGIS 10.x has a bad interaction of the Item Description editor with geoprocessing tool dialogs, related to a common (but not default) ActiveX security setting. This issue is common, but does not affect all users because not everyone has the same ActiveX security policies. The problem has been observed in ArcMap and ArcCatalog (ArcGIS 10.4 and later). BUG-000100572: Input drop-down options in geoprocessing tools are not available after editing or saving metadata.    To check for the issue:  In ArcMap: make sure you have at least one feature layer in the map Open the Buffer tool (Geoprocessing > Buffer) and verify if map layer(s) appear in the drop down for the first parameter. You should see all feature layers in the active data frame available in the dropdown. Right click the layer in the TOC, choose Data > View Item Description Click the Edit button to open the editor, then Save, then Exit. Open the Clip tool (Geoprocessing > Clip) and  verify   if map layer(s) appear in the drop down for the first parameter. If drop down pick list of layers does not work (that is, the tool dialog is not "seeing" map layers or table views) you have this problem. Workarounds Fix #1 If in ArcMap, save your ArcMap document. Close and re-open the application.  This is not ideal as you need to interrupt your ArcGIS desktop session.   Fix #2 If you work in an enterprise environment that only allows admins to modify these settings, or changes them back to a standard setting by Windows Group Policy, this fix may not work. You should consult with your computer management staff about these changes. Hi,   We have some public facing Metadata in ISO 19139. They are published as XML: https://geodata-info.dk/srv/api/records/1bbc1ecf-fe3d-4a28-aace-e614aabfd71d/formatters/xml We like the ability to automatically harvest these metadata into the portal metadata, where we also use ISO 19139.  We could do it through a script that maps each attribute, but now that we have the metadata standards alligned on both sites, i am hoping to find tools for this instead of inventing it ourselves? The Government of Canada has developed the Harmonized North American Profile (HNAP) of ISO 19115:2003. It extends ISO 19115:2003 (NAP), mainly to include bilingual data elements, but also specific codelists, keywords, organization names, and other business rules. Specifically to bilingual data elements, HNAP specifies that, for example, the title must be represented in both English and in French. The U.S. Census Bureau recently released shapefiles of the geography for the 2020 Decennial Census. The shapefiles come with ISO metadata in two files, one main file and and a separate file for the Entity and Attribute information (fields.) Neither file is easily readable as-is in ArcCatalog and ArcGIS Pro; in the latter it will display as the raw xml as in a web browser. There appears to be no stylesheet for the specific xml as delivered. Does anyone have a way to convert it to something Pro can deal with? ... View more

Good afternoon everyone, I am updating metadata in all Fc inside a FD, and for some reason there is one FC that when I select it the option "Edit" does not show to add metadata, only options "Print" and "Import " are available. Also I exported the whole FD to a FGDB in the eventuality the layer was locked, to be sure that I was the only one working on the layer, and same behavior. Any ideas in how to solve this issue. ...
