crossed leader lines

Anyone know how to deal with the issue of label leader lines crossing each other? When I have several features relatively close together I run into this, and want to know if there is some kind of adjustment in the settings I can make. Seems if I fuss with the offset it can help, but not always.

This is a known issue that we have not been able to completely fix. What version of ArcGIS are you using? We made some improvements to leader lines at 10.0 and hope to resolve the issue in the near future.
