Hey,

I couldn’t figure out why ArcMap fails to add rasters to the mosaic dataset. The following messages are displayed in the results:

8004206a: Could not validate the footprint geometry associated with the item.

8004206e: The footprint extent is completely outside the domain extent of the mosaic dataset´s coordinate system.

80040213: Transformation is unavailable for the current image.

8004206c: Failures reported while processing specified command item.

Does anybody of you know how to solve this problem?

I would be very grateful for your help!

Hi Manuel,

I would start by checking the spatial reference of the rasters you are trying to add. Though it's not necessary for the rasters and the mosaic dataset to be in the same spatial reference, it is necessary that the mosaic dataset's spatial reference has an extent that includes the rasters' (i.e. the mosaic dataset can be in Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere, and the rasters can be in a local UTM, but not vice versa).

To check the rasters' spatial reference:

Raster dataset properties—Help | ArcGIS Desktop

If the spatial reference of the rasters need to be changed, the Project Raster tool can be used:

Project Raster—Help | ArcGIS Desktop

Project Raster—Data Management toolbox | ArcGIS Desktop

Hopefully that clears up the errors and allows the tool to run!

Happy rastering!
