I want to create a mosaic dataset with 400 1m pixel size orthophotos. Each image is about 1 GB and 20,000 x 20,000 rows and columns. I created pyramids beforehand. Now I am trying to add these images to a Mosaic Dataset. For hours it just stays at 0% with messages in attached picture. I am using ArcGIS Pro on a 64 GB Xeon processor. Any idea if this will work?
Sincerely
That doesn't sound right..Unless your computer is very slow but it doesn't sound like it.
I did over 1000 photos of similar size relatively quickly.
As a test, I would close ArcPro and try again from scratch. Make sure the Add Rasters to MD tool isn't trying to build pyramids, calculate stats, or building overviews for now to save yourself time. This will let you know what you're trying to do is possible without adding time consuming tasks in. Also, test this out on say 10 photos first in "temp" directory before going for the entire dataset. If it works, then repeat on the set of 400.
If it errors out or stalls...look to see if the tool can access the directory the photos are stored in. If it doesn't have read access, this could be the problem, and you'll need to move the photos somewhere else it can work from.
My attachment shows the quick configuration for the tool you can use. Note the boxes that are unchecked.
This customer is using named user licenses from portal. It seems there is some latency in their network and the client machine loses connection to the license server. I added fewer images at one time and I was able to complete Add Rasters task. I got stuck again at Build Overviews as I cannot build overviews in batches.
We moved the license to the local machine and everything worked fine. Problem is that Pro does not prompt about when the process gets stuck.
I also tested by using a license in AGOL and with a much smaller dataset. If I disconnect the machine from internet the process gets stuck. Ideally Pro runs for 60 minutes when disconnected from license server. Does this mean that I can only use Pro to view data and probably save the project during these 60 minutes? Is running GP Tools not permitted in this duration?
Thanks
I'm not sure about the license/offline issue you're having.
If you're not sure when the process gets stuck, I assume your referring to running the Add Rasters to Mosaic Dataset Tool. If this is the case, I'd suggest just using that tool to only add the source images to the mosaic. Don't built overviews, stats, etc from it. You can run each of these processes separately through the Catalog by right clicking the mosaic dataset. This way, you could run the tools that are run in bulk through the Add Rasters to Mosaic Dataset Tool one at a time, and then know where your issues of getting stuck are.
