It would be nice to be able to configure a derived mosaic dataset to show only the most recent imagery when you have multiple years of source mosaic datasets in it. Specifically, when you are using the mosaic method of 'By Attribute'.

Currently, you can configure a derived MD to show the most recent imagery on top by default when it's added to a map; however, all of the other source MDs draw underneath it and causes slow loading times. Ideally, it would be nice to be able to use the tool 'Set Mosaic Dataset Properties' and set properties so that when I mosaic dataset is added to a map by a user, it would use the mosaic method of 'By Attribute', and based on this would show only imagery on top meeting the defined attribute field (in my case a date field for year), and it would not draw anything else.

Similar to a definition query really, but just something you could setup ahead of time so users don't have to change settings themselves after they add the dataset to their map.

I like the idea of using derived mosaic datasets to share multiple years of imagery to users, and to have the most recent year on top, but when you have say 12 - 20 years' worth of imagery and the software is drawing each layer stacked on top of each other, it's not the best performance.
