I would like to see the export to Mr Sid. We used the export feature to create small Mr Sid files for project areas, and I think we will continue to use it.
@gwalters: I realize ArcPad will always read MrSid. I would just like to have the export functionality so that we can create an MrSid Image that only displays a project area.
I don't know if this has changed in recent years, but in the past MrSID was a proprietary format. The owners of the format, Lizardtech, charged for software that would convert to that format as part of their business model. The company I was with from 2004-2011 looked into acquiring their software, but the fee structure of charging not only for the software but for every image converted was prohibited to us at the time. Maybe that has changed?
There is no open source implementation of the MrSID format.
