The Denver International Airport is seeking a full-time Geospatial Systems Specialist to become a member of the Planning and Design Division. As a Geospatial Systems Specialist you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing projects that are assigned using the Esri ArcGIS suite and related software. Responsibilities include high quality map production, web map development, and GIS analysis. You will act as a subject matter expert for the Airport’s SDE (Enterprise Geodatabases), as well as the Airport’s Esri Portal.

  • Develop and maintain Portal web apps and geoprocessing tools to support established workflows.
  • Adapts and updates existing systems to meet user requirements.
  • Efficiently converts data between standard spatial data formats including, but not limited to, AutoCAD drawing and Revit files, Esri geodatabase feature classes, stand-alone tables, spreadsheets, and various raster data formats.
  • Develops and initiates new methods of representing spatial data cartographically to support agency initiatives and recommends standards for GIS data development and cartography (implements with supervisor approval).
  • Research, tests, and recommends new hardware and software products for GIS use.
  • Performs technical reviews of GIS and 3rd party software to determine software functionality; interoperability with existing systems; and adherence to current technology standards and directives.
  • Supports non-GIS users and provides technical support.
  • Interprets new spatial data and applies the appropriate data conversion techniques to project, re-project, transform, rubber-sheet, conflate, and accurately register it to airport coordinates.
  • Documents workflow processes and requirements for GIS application development and modifies existing documentation as needed.
  • Trains users in GIS concepts and data maintenance and cartographic techniques.
  • Occasionally conducts presentations on enterprise specific topics to internal users.
  • Exhibits independent judgement and discretion in determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems.
  • Genuinely excited and enthusiastic about learning and pushing technical limits when finding new solutions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

We are looking for a GIS expert who has experience dealing with the complexities of a large GIS Enterprise; and who understands the importance that maintaining existing infrastructure is crucial for the development goals of our airport. In addition, our ideal candidate will have some or all of the following experience:

  • Minimum two (2) years of Esri ArcGIS experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies (analytical/GIS focus), Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience with the Esri software suite (e.g., Enterprise Portal, ArcGIS Experience Builder, ArcGIS Pro, etc.).
  • Previous experience using AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Previous aviation and/or city planning GIS experience is preferred.

  • Education:  Graduation from high school or the possession of GED, HiSET, or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience:  Four (4) years of hands-on experience working with geographical or land information systems to input and present agency or client data.
  • Equivalency:  Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Position Salary Range: $21.47 -$32.21

Starting Pay: Will be based on education and experience

Location: In this position you can expect to work on site at the Denver International Airport three (3) days per week.
