Hello,

I just start to learn ArcGIS. Can anybody tell me what files I need to start with ArcGIS, and how to get them?

I want to do geocoding to the data ofOrange County in Florida.

Your help is really appreciated.

A good source of data would be to use the Tiger/Line Shapefiles:
http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/tgrshp2010/tgrshp2010.html

There is a wealth of information here, and I hope it puts you on the right track.

Jane:

Geocoding is easier than ever but there still are a few critical steps to work through.  I would start here:

http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/What_is_geocoding/002500000001000000/

And proceed through the other topics on geocoding including setting up an address locator and then doing the actual geocoding.

What's new in ArcGIS 10 with geocoding:

http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//00qp00000014000000.htm

I hope this is helpful.

First you need to download the shapefiles that you want to geocode against.  For the census data, I believe it is the tiger road data.  Then you will have to create your locater based off that information.  Finally, you can geode the list of addresses.

The links Joseph Kerski provided will help you with that.  In addition, in the ArcGIS help, there are tutorials that can help you as well.  I suggest you read and try them out.  See: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#/ArcGIS_tutorials/00v20000000t000000
