What is the option for an API that provides a non-ArcObjects based means by which advanced developers can work with ArcSDE Geodatabases?

HI Peoples,

I noted the ArcSDE Java SDK API stopped being supplied and supported in the 10.2 release.

I note there is a file Geodatabase API.  It states:

The File Geodatabase API provides a non-ArcObjects based means by which advanced developers can work with File Geodatabases.

– but this does not support enterprise ArcSDE.

So – what is the option for an API that provides a non-ArcObjects based means by which advanced developers can work with ArcSDE Geodatabases?
