I have a Mac and a Windows virtual machine, on which I run ArcGIS for Desktop. I want to install PostgreSQL. I prefer to install it on space allocated for the Mac OS instead of Windows because there are Mac applications that need to connect to it. At the same time, from ArcGIS for Desktop, I want to be able to read and write from this PostgreSQL database, and I do not want to make a separate PostgreSQL installation on Windows.
Has anyone installed a PostgreSQL server on a Mac, and then been able to successfully connect to it from ArcGIS for Desktop?
How different were the steps from these instructions:
