At the European Microsoft Fabric Community Conference in September 2025, we announced that ArcGIS GeoAnalytics for Microsoft Fabric would be transitioning from public preview into general availability in the near future.  We anticipate that will be happening in the coming weeks (in October 2025).

The transition to general availability will be done in a phased rollout, where it will be made available region-by-region.  This means that not all Fabric regions will see the general availability release at the same time.  This has a few implications related to authentication and licensing that we wanted to make you aware of.

Authentication. The general availability release of GeoAnalytics for Fabric will require users to authenticate prior to using any of the functionality in the library.  This means that once the GeoAnalytics for Fabric library is updated to the general availability release in your Fabric region, your existing notebooks will not be able to run without authentication.

When this happens you will receive an authentication error like this:

Py4JJavaError: An error occurred while calling <GeoAnalytics for Fabric function/tool> : com.esri.geoanalytics.internal.AuthError: Not authorized

Until you have a license and user credentials to authenticate with GeoAnalytics for Fabric you will not be able to use any of the library functionality.

Licensing. Once the GeoAnalytics for Fabric library has been rolled out across all Fabric regions, there will be an option in the Azure Marketplace to purchase a license for the library.  After purchasing the license you will be able to set up a user account with authentication credentials.  These credentials (user name / password or API key) will be able to be used for authentication to allow use of the GeoAnalytics for Fabric library.

Because the rollout of the general availability will be phased across regions there may be a point in time when the library requires authentication but the license isn’t yet ready for purchase.  We will have the licensing available for purchase as soon as possible after the regional rollout has completed.

If you have questions in the meantime, please feel free to comment on this blog or to post them in the Questions section of the GeoAnalytics for Fabric community.

So, only one license that is $1,000/month for 500 core hours? No consumption-based option?

Yes, there is currently only one licensing option for GeoAnalytics for Fabric.  I would be happy to talk more about your needs for a consumption-based option and what that would look like for  you / your organization.
