Hello everyone! I'm Justine Domingo from the Philippines, currently a 4th-year architecture student. I recently discovered GIS and am fascinated by it! I first learned about it during a convention at the World Trade Center in Manila, where they discussed geospatial analysis using drones for surveying and mapping data. It was incredibly interesting!
With the recent showcase of the Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards (noah.up.edu.ph), I believe this is the first user-friendly public website developed here in the Philippines. GIS has proven to be incredibly useful for everyone, helping people better understand hazard-related data and mapping information.
I was inspired by this to learn more about the industry. I've been struggling to find more information online—maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. That's why I thought I'd reach out to this forum. Since many of you are seasoned veterans in this field, could you share some insights on how to get started in GIS? Is it something primarily for those with geodetic or related engineering degrees, or can it also be learned through webinars, seminars, and other resources? Thanks so much for your help & Nice meeting y'all
Hi @Justine0329 - nice to meet you! Thank you for your question and will try my best to point you to the right info.
I hope this helps!!
Are there any programs those are eligible for Sri Lankan undergraduates?
You can absolutely learn GIS through online tutorials, videos, and just playing with it. That is exactly what I did. Some of my favorites resources are:
Nice to connect with you @Justine0329 I believe all the information shared with you by the Esri contributors and YPN officials themselves is significant/sufficient enough for a headstart.
If you would mind to also connect with me, here's my LinkedIn.
Wow, I didn't expect such a positive response! Thank you all so much! I'll definitely check out what you shared. 😁
Let us know what you find! Thanks for reaching out 😀
