  • Exam Duration: 1 Hour, 30 Minutes
  • Exam Format: Multiple Choice
  • Exam Language: English

Exam Purpose

The ArcGIS Pro Associate Exam tests candidates’ experience applying ArcGIS concepts and processes to workflows. Qualified candidates should have 2 or more years of applied experience using ArcGIS. Candidates should be skilled at using ArcGIS to manage, analyze, and manipulate geospatial data.

Target Candidate Audience

The ArcGIS Pro Associate exam is intended for candidates with intermediate level of ArcGIS experience and who use it to perform complex workflows and analysis regularly.

Description of Qualified Candidate

The ArcGIS Pro Associate exam measures a candidate’s mastery of ArcGIS concepts. It is recommended that the candidate have 2 or more years of applied experience using ArcGIS. Qualified candidates should demonstrate proficiency of ArcGIS concepts and recommended practices. The candidate should be able to implement principles of data management, performing analysis, editing 2D and 3D features, mapping and visualization, and sharing content across ArcGIS. Passing the exam provides an opportunity for candidates to validate their technical expertise in implementing ArcGIS Pro workflows.

Candidate Qualifications

A qualified candidate should be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Apply advanced map visualization methods and techniques
  • Construct a map using available datasets and services
  • Create new spatial datasets from analysis of existing datasets
  • Apply raster functions
  • Select appropriate geoprocessing environment settings for a given scenario
  • Work with layer properties and tables
  • Apply 2D and 3D editing workflows
  • Compare and contrast the basic types of geographic data
  • Select the datasets necessary to perform a specific analysis
  • Share data across ArcGIS
  • Convert data from different formats
  • Evaluate the suitability of a dataset for a given scenario
  • Manipulate data between different projections
  • Apply established workflows to correct issues with projections and transformations
  • Manipulate time-enabled data
  • Author expressions from a list of available functions
  • Create a model for a repeatable process
  • Use an existing model, script, and ArcGIS notebook
  • Use ArcGIS Pro Tasks

The following tasks are considered beyond the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the qualified candidate:

  • Administer a database
  • Administer ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Author Tasks
  • Troubleshooting computer/network systems upon which ArcGIS Pro is implemented
  • Python programming

A qualified candidate should be familiar with the following:

  • ArcGIS Pro
  • ArcGIS Online
  • ArcGIS Enterprise

Skills Measured

Candidates should use the exam content sections below as a checklist to identify gaps between their knowledge and the skills measured by the exam. The relative weight indicates the approximate size of each section. It is recommended that preparation be focused in areas where knowledge gaps are found.

Data Management 34%

  • Compare and contrast various types of vector and raster datasets supported in ArcGIS
  • Choose and apply an appropriate coordinate system to preserve the desired spatial properties
  • Given a scenario, determine how to manage data in a geodatabase, feature class, or table
  • Apply spatial and attribute data validation
  • Given a scenario, determine the appropriate existing geodatabase elements to use
  • Manage raster data, tabular data, and vector data
  • Manage metadata and item details

Data Manipulation 18%

  • Use ArcGIS Pro editing functionality to create, modify, and delete 2D and 3D data
  • Resolve the root cause of a data alignment problem
  • Given a scenario, apply a query
  • Troubleshoot data anomalies with tabular and vector data

Visualization 14%

  • Identify how to control the coordinate system and geographic transformation in ArcGIS Pro
  • Manage layer properties
  • Determine how to visualize temporal, ranged, or 3D data

Sharing 11%

  • Identify how to export data, maps, and scenes to different formats
  • Choose how to share content across ArcGIS
  • Determine how to create and manage map layouts and map

Analysis & Geoprocessing 23%

  • Compare the functionality of table joins and relates, relationship classes, and spatial joins
  • Given a scenario, determine the appropriate geoprocessing tool to use
  • Given a scenario, use tasks, batch processing, models, or scripts to execute a complex workflow
  • Identify analysis tools available from the connected portal
  • Apply raster functions for raster and image processing

Resources

To help prepare for the exam, we recommend candidates use the training resources provided below, along with reviewing the list of exam objectives, to identify and fill any knowledge gaps. Completing the recommended training courses does not guarantee a passing score on a certification exam.
