ArcGIS Pro allows developers to implement support for custom data formats through a combination of Customs Items (ProConcepts Custom Items · Esri/arcgis-pro-sdk Wiki · GitHub) and Plugin Datasources (ProConcepts Plugin Datasources · Esri/arcgis-pro-sdk Wiki · GitHub ). However, the Custom Items are not viewable in the Catalog View of ArcGIS Pro through either the Geometry, Metadata, or Table tabs. It would be useful for ArcGIS Pro users to be able to preview custom format data in Catalog View prior to adding that data to a Map. It would be undesirable and redundant to try to recreate the Catalog View in my own Addin just to preview custom format data files. Could an programming interface be added to allow ArcGIS Pro to access data from the Custom Item's underlying Plugin Datasource to populate the Table and Geometry tabs in Catalog View? Similarly could ArcGIS Pro Custom Items be modified to allow the developer to override the metadata with their own information derived from their custom file format?

Adding these missing pieces (along with case-insensitive file extensions) would bring ArcGIS Pro Plugin Datasources up to the functional level of ArcGIS Plugin Workspace Factories and would allow organizations like ours to move on from ArcGIS.
