When I geocode a table of addresses using an Address Locator that I created in ArcGIS 10, I get a field in the geocoded results table titled "User_fld".  I didn't get this field in version 9.3 and have tried to find what it means in the version 10 help but have had no luck.  The field is empty for unmatched records and has a zero in it for matched records.  Does anyone know what this field is?

In v10 just like 9.x, when you create an address locator, you pick the fields from the reference database that match the address locator elements.  In v10, at the bottom of the field selections, there is the option to select an additional (L and R if using Dual Range Style) field from the reference database that will be output with the matched results.

For my projects, I choose the unique identifier in the reference database as the additional field.  This way, I can look at my results and link each matched result back to the candidate it matched to in the reference database because the unique identifier value is listed as the User_fld.

It was added to allow for an extra field to be carried along while geocoding.  It can be used for anything really.
