SDE Connection 10.1

Hi,
There is an  Geodatabase mount over Oracle 11g  that needs to be accesed by clients outside the LAN.
Generating an SDE service over a public IP is the only option available for this clients to conect to the DataBase.
These clients do not have a VPN to log in.
It should continue to use SDE Connections ??

Best practice would be to always have a VPN link -- At a minimum, you could engineer an
SSH session on a non-standard port through a firewall via a proxy.  Direct Internet access
is really too scary to contemplate.
