I am exporting a simple point layer to KML.

I am using the "Layer to KML" tool in the "Conversion Tools" toolbox under ArcGis 9.3.

When I open the resulting KML file and then I zoom in, in Google Earth, the symbols disappear when I'm around 40 km of altitude.

Is there a way to create a KML file where the symbols are visible at all heights?

After you have converted to kml, in Google Earth; right click on the layer in your kml file and in Properties under the 'Altitude' tab, change the drop-down to 'Clamped to Ground'. Then save in Google Earth and after that the symbols should display no matter what your altitude is. I am still looking for a way to make this happen in ArcMap ahead of time, though.

Thanks, msmart.  This helped me today.  With the latest version of the Layer to KML tool there is a check box to clamp to ground.
