Howdy All,

I have a shortlist story map created and it seems to be working just fine on a full screen view but when I try to use it on my phone I have to refresh the link two or three times before it will load properly.  It always comes up eventually but it seems to need a "wake up" every time.  To give it a try please go to apps.douglas.co.us/parkos/.  Please let me know if anyone else has had this behavior and figured out a way to fix it.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark

Sorry about the issue. We had a look and we recommend updating your Shortlist to the latest version. Your Shortlist:

http://apps.douglas.co.us/parkos/ uses version 1.4.2 and when we download that version and open your web map using it. we get the same issue. Using a test instance of our latest version (1.4.8) it loads OK in small display (although there is a delay due probably to the number of tabs):

Howdy Rupert,

That is brilliant. Thank you so much it works like a charm.

If you have a moment could I ask you two more questions?

1) Is there any way of using the newest shortlist version and still keeping links and banner pictures and css adjustments from the current version or do I have to go in and reset any changes manually in the new version?

2) When opening the page (in full desktop monitor size) there is a lag if it hasn’t been open for a while (sometimes 30-45 seconds). Is there anything I can do to speed up the initial opening (there’s layers coming from rest services do I have to bump up the pooling number of instances)?

Thanks for your help,

Mark Rankin

PS – If you were part of the team that created the shortlist I just want you to know it’s great. I’ve gotten rave reviews from many different people in our county (we haven’t officially launched it to the public) and it has made me look like I know what I’m doing (which I don’t). In any case your shortlist is wonderful and will help make the people in and around Douglas County a healthier bunch due to being able to find all the recreation locations. The only bad part is now I’ll have to be more careful when riding my bike on the single track. Bummer.

Hi Mark

I am on that team. Very pleased you like the app and your County is getting fitter .

1) Sorry there's not a way to automatically update an existing Shortlist with customizations like yours to a new version. (PS: updating to the latest version will fix a couple of other things in your Shortlist, like the Share Link button in the top right hand corner that doesn't populate. We fixed that in 1.4.8 too.).

2) At full screen desktop size I'm not really seeing the lag you mention and the load time seems good. I don't know about pooling but worth trying if it would speed up load. Your web map seems to have two copies of the same Line layer in it:

Howdy Rupert,

It looks like we’ve got the new and improved version up and running at http://dvapps.douglas.co.us/parkos_148/. It is working great. I’m thinking that it does seem to fix the lag and the mobile is working way better than with the older version.

We do have two lines on the map. After a certain zoom level (I think 1:10,000) the imagery turns on so we changed the trail/line color so that it was more visible on the imagery.

Thanks again for your help!

Cheers,

Mark

Cool, I am viewing it now on an iPod Touch and it is working much better.

That is nice how your lines and polys are clickable too providing information for your users.

When your map opens, both of those line layers are drawn. You could perhaps speed up drawing a bit by setting a scale rule for the one that doesn't need to be drawn until the imagery kicks in.

Let us know if your County tweets a link to this story map, or to a web page about the Outdoors that includes a link to your story map, and we'd be happy to retweet that tweet on our official Twitter account: https://twitter.com/EsriStoryMaps

Howdy Rupert,

I tried having an upper scale dependency on the “imagery” line layer but then it doesn’t recognize the pop-up function. It is a bit funky looking having them flash and then getting drawn over by the brown lines but I like the pop-up ability so I’m willing to live with the funkiness. In any case with the lines flashing one color and then going to another color is a bit like disco lights…..and how can you go wrong with disco lights. (Special request, could you add a John Travolta in white suit cursor in the next release?)

That would be great if you could retweet a link to our story map. I’ll check with our web master to what our official Twitter account.

Enjoy your evening and thanks to you and your team for the great product.

Cheers,

MR
