With Picasa being retired, will Google photos be an option in the Story Maps builder?

I am sharing the power of Story Maps with k-12 teachers.  Our district uses Google for almost everything so having Picasa as an option for photos was great.  Teachers and students had access to their photos in a platform they already used and we didn't have to ask students to upload or go to Facebook or Flickr (as these are prohibited during school hours).  With Picasa being retired and no longer supported, will Google Photos become an option for adding photos to a Story Map?
