I'm using the Cascade builder.

There is an small issue when exists a story map inside another story map.

Mouse events need to be activate via "double click" on the embedded story map, and then on the text to get the functionality back to the main story map.

Story map inside another story map

In this case the embedded map, the mouse wheel should zoom in or zoom out, but he main story should scroll the text. (Conflict of events)

The swipe control initially doesn't work, so the embedded story map looks just like an image for the regular user.

Maybe adding a frame or the possibility to add some text below the embedded map to explain how to activate and deactivate the second story map.

Could be nice too to "fade" the text of the main story map to show that it is deactivated, or a combination fading the inactive story map.

Nice option to warning when used resources are not properly shared, Private - Organization - Public.

Hi Ricardo,

Thanks for your comments on Cascade. Regarding the behavior of the embedded story map, you are correct in that it won't respond until it is clicked once first. We did this so that the embedded content won't hijack the scroll as a reader scrolls through the story. Embedded story maps or other web content can have their own scroll behavior, so it would be a very bad experience if the embed suddenly started scrolling. There are a few options you have to address this:

  • It looks like you are embedding a Swipe story map. I think the best option in this case is to not embed a story map in your Cascade at all, but to add an immersive section and then add the two maps from the Swipe app in two consecutive views and use a swipe transition between them. This can be a much more effective and integrated method of storytelling using a swipe experience.

  • If you still want to embed your Swipe app and think it would be helpful to have a note to your readers, you can use the caption area to add that.

  • Another option is to select the Button to Enable mode for interaction in the Appearance tab of the media configuration panel. This will add an Explore button in the lower right corner of the embed frame that the reader will need to click to interact with the embedded story.

We are working on integrating into Cascade the automatic checks for how maps, scenes, and layers in your story are shared (like we have in Map Journal and Map Series and on the My Stories section of the Story Maps website). We hope to release that in December.
