It's not the map I'm having issues with, it's adding information to new tabs.

Hi Lindsey, sorry about the issue. There's something else going on if you can't add new places to your Story Map Shortlist, or edit existing places: It's not related to the update of Shortlist from being a beta app to being fully fledged.

Could you let us know what happens when you try to, for example, add a new place to an existing tab and then save. Is there a message that appears when you try to save?

One thing to check: has the Shortlist been moved to a different account? If a Shortlist or Map Tour is moved to a new account without the underlying web map in which the story stores its places also being moved to that new account, it can result in you not being able to save edits when you try and modify the story. To make changes to a Shortlist or Map Tour, you need to be the owner of both the app and its associated web map, or be using an account, like an account with Admin access, that has permission to edit those two assets. To find the web map used by a Shortlist or Tour, find the story in My Stories ( My Stories | Story Maps ) and look in the Map tab.

Hi Rupert,

Thank you very much for getting back to me so quickly! First I’d like to say I love the Short List style of Story Map. I used it in a large project for my Master’s Degree and got a great mark and my class and prof thought it was very unique.

I have attached to picture of what happens when I am trying to save, but you are absolutely right, it has been moved from a public account to the Esri Canada Education account. I am not technical at all so changing the JSON files web map ids is beyond my abilities. I have also tried modifying the old file and the changes show up in the copy. I swear I was having trouble with the old file too.

I’ve decided to just rebuild the whole thing in the Education account. It’s a lot of copy/paste, but the format itself is very easy to work with so it’s not a problem.

I’m sorry to take up your time and thanks again for getting back to me! Have a great Wednesday!

Lindsey

Thanks Lindsey. No problem. Sorry about the issue. We do need to handle the Shortlist and Map Tour cases better when it comes to changing accounts, because the apps are tied to specific maps and authors get the save error that you got if they try and update those stories without having write access to the associated map.

In the case where the Shortlist app has been moved to another account, you could continue editing it in that new account if you also moved the web map that the Shortlist uses into that new account too.

Rupert.
