I would like to have two labels for one boundary layer. When zoomed out I would like the labels to show in the center of the polygon and when zoomed in I would like them to be placed along the border. Is this possible using Maplex?

You open Mapplex.  click on the feature class you want to label. But not on the drop down item

Normally the label is called default. Enter a new class name and click add.  It will give it the properties of the top label by default. which in this case is default.

Open your boundary labels in maplex.

Create both of your label styles.

In the lower left corner you will see an option for Scale Range.

Set the appropriate visible ranges for both styles.

How do I get Maplex to allow me to have two labels though?
