Inventory of New and Existing Points

Hello all, I am an ArcPad novice and I had a question about an inventory process I am working on.  I have a geodatabase that I checked out as an AXF file in ArcPad 10.  I am creating custom forms in Studio, but here is my question.  The shapefile/layer where I want to collect data in already has existing Lat/Long coordinates and points.  There are going to be many times where I want to edit that location using the GPS coordinates.  Other times, I may want to keep the location where is it, but I still want to capture additional data using the forms I created.  I have new fields I created where I can capture the Lat and Long coordinates.

How should I separate these two collection methods?  Two different forms?  By way of scripting?  (note, I am not well versed in scripting).  I have read articles/posts/etc. on editing points versus collecting new points, but not from the same form.  Do I need to create an applet?  The surveyor will not know if they need to edit the existing point location or not until they travel to the site, so I'd like it to be something where they can look on the map and see if the point is in the right location.

Any replies or comments would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks again in advance!
