I would like functionality added to the Workflow Manager Administrator so that as I am building up my workflow, I may build some step types and workflows that I then choose to not use and instead start from scratch (particularly if I am building a new workflow that is still in flux), I would like to have an easy way to see where a particular object (step type/workflow) is used in the higher level objects (workflows/job types), or if there were a tool to "remove unused" objects such as step types and workflows, that would clean up the objects that were built, or installed, but are no longer used.

Hi my name is Michael Broadbent and I'm the relatively new Product Manager of Workflow Manager. This is an older request but I wanted to take the time to respond. In the longterm we do plan to completely redo the Workflow Manager workflow design experience. Here are a few answers to your questions based on what we currently have planned for the future.

- We have a plan to add a 'scratch workspace' area in a diagram, where steps can be tossed that are neither part of the diagram or part of the step type library as a temporary workspace

- Step, workflow used in higher objects: Is it that direction that you want to see? What info are you looking for? Just the knowledge of whether it is used? Or by how many job types? Or do you want specific names? We've considered a few versions of this but would want more feedback.

- We intend on making a clean-up ability to find and remove orphaned workflow items.

Do you have any other requests? Now's the time!

Thanks for the input,

Michael

It would be great to be able to do a copy/paste with workflows (Ability to copy and paste in Workflow Manager )

but the best would be to be able to relax the requirement for all components be at the same version - WMX, Server, Desktop. We find that migrations in a large organization are often phased and our WMX users often end up being left behind as they wait for all the pieces to be migrated.

Thanks,

Hi Alison,

That is an issue, but unfortunately one we can't easily mitigate thus the blanket policy.

Shoot me an email and I'd be happy to talk about it more indepth and some of our new developments as I know you're an active WMX user

Cheers,

Michael

Michael,

I am heading to the UC this year. Would it be possible to meet up? I have some questions about WMX that I would love to get answered.

Thanks,

Alison

Update: Removing items that are no longer used and showing where an item is used, are being actively considered as part of our revamping Workflow Manager work. More to come
