Elevation profile only gives the Z value of the start and end of a polyline/line

Hi everyone,
I try to make a webapp which can be used to generate to generate simple profiles from embankments/dikes.
As heightmap I use a raster tiff with zvalues with a resolution of 0.5meter:
For some arcane reason the profile only seems to show first and the last z value of a line and ignores all other values between those points.
What am I doing wrong?
