ArcGIS Urban V1.0 has been released!

The very first version of Urban went live on 1 July 2019 and today, at The Esri User Conference in San Diego, a portion of the plenary will be dedicated to presenting it to you. If you cannot be there in person, watch the

Esri User Conference Plenary Livestream  and comment below to let us know what you think.

To get an up-close and personal look at the product, you can request a demo via the Urban website.

Happy watching!

Hi Natalie,

I know it is not directly related to the release of Urban, I attended the Special Interest Group meeting during the UC. There was a voting of the functionalities that we would like to see in the future release of Urban. I can't recall the top 3 voted functionalities - able to share with me?

Hey James

The highest scores in the voting session went to:

  • Custom capacity metrics (KPIs) and dashboards
  • Urban growth modelling
  • 3D model upload for projects/context

Do you agree with the list? What would you like to see in future Urban releases?

Yup. I agree, now i recall for the custom KPI and the traffic-impact simulation. Looking forward to the next release!

Hello Natalie,

I am inquiring about these features that are not readily available in the current Arcgis urban release.

  1. Urban Growth Modeling:

    • What capabilities does ArcGIS Urban offer for modeling urban growth scenarios?
    • How can we incorporate growth projections, land use changes, and population dynamics into our models?
  2. 3D Model Upload for Projects/Context:

    • How do we upload 3D models (e.g., building designs, infrastructure) into ArcGIS Urban for context visualization?
    • Are there any best practices or guidelines for integrating 3D models effectively?

Hi @AhmedTarekAlhusainy

Thanks for your questions. ArcGIS Urban has functionalities that support both workflows:

1. Urban Growth Modeling

Growth Modeling is possible with Plans in ArcGIS Urban. Urban has two types of plans:

  • Zoning plans: Allow you to create different growth scenarios based on future buildings. You can either generate future buildings based on zoning regulations or you can manually design future buildings. You can then use metrics to quantify this growth (e.g., to calculate the future population). Learn more about zoning plans in our documentation.
  • Land use plans: If you are interested in estimating land use changes in 2D, I recommend using land use plans. ArcGIS Urban can calculate the land-use potential (e.g., projected population) based on land-use regulations and usage mix. Learn more about land-use plans and land-use potential in our documentation.

2. 3D Model Upload for Projects/Context

To visualize 3D models of development projects, we recommend using Projects in ArcGIS Urban. In ArcGIS Urban, a project refers to current planning of future building projects at the scale of a single site or a lot. You can add 3D visualizations to project scenarios from various sources, including BIM. See Add external 3D content in our documentation to learn more.

You can also add 3D context layers to Plans in ArcGIS Urban. See Add context layers in our documentation to learn more.

I hope this answers your questions. Please let me know if I can further help you with anything!

Best,

Till
