Enable Export to Excel at all user levels

ESRI please make it possible for all users to be able to export to Excel/CSV.

Currently you need Creator level as a minimum to perform this basic operation. A Creator licence would be purchased by an organisation BECAUSE they need the user to have ArcGIS Pro, mainly. To reserve this feature to ArcGIS Pro users is pointless. For the sake of a seamless collaboration between organisation members, It makes so much sense that a Viewer who has a stake in seeing and using the data collected by their Mobile Worker (and above) colleagues, has the permissions to export records to Excel and continue their part of the job outside of AGOL.

There are workarounds available. For example, you can create an Experience Builder application and there use the table or select widget to allow a viewer user type to export to CSV, JSON or GeoJSON.

@AndreasHall , that's very useful to know, thank you.

However, I think the idea still remains valid, that it would make sense to enable this feature and avoid organisations having to find workarounds like this?

@AndreasHall are you very sure about that? In my 11.5 Enterprise Portal, Viewers definitely can not export csvs at that level. Indeed even Creator is not enough. I have found that they need a publisher-level permission, and so I've essentially had to create a 'nerfed publisher' role for many of my users.

Check out ArcGIS for Excel then you can have a live time connection.  Even can edit.  Its slick

RafaeldePedro

@DougBrowning I will, thank you. My understanding was that ArcGIS for Excel had a different purpose - more like having an embedded map view of Excel data, rather than an Excel view from Survey123 data, if you see what I mean.

I will investigate it nonetheless.

Still, as an idea for this forum, I believe my original suggestion remains valid. I hope ESRI will address this properly.

It did but the new one you see the attribute table right there in excel.  super slick now.  I have been working with them.  Even domains come in as drop downs.  it loads once then its fast and you can refresh as needed.

you could also have a python script or notebook on AGOL running under your account that dumps the excel onto the network every night on schedule using the export to excel tool from arcpy.

Even if they take up the idea it takes months to get into a product.  But really its a AGOL issue with content creation.  So its not even a 123 issue.  Just the way AGOL is so that is probably not going to change as it counts as new content.

@DougBrowning thank you for your answer - I will be giving a closer look to ArcGIS for Excel : )

@ZachBodenner I tested in Enterprise 11.5 with a hosted feature layer. Once you allow export on that layer in the item details settings page you should be fine.

(The UI is in Swedish but I think you understand it anyway.)

ZachBodenner

@AndreasHall , yes that seems to work but I very rarely use hosted layers. Most of our services are referencing our geodatabase.

AndreasHall

@ZachBodenner, it should work fine with layers referencing a geodatabase as well. I can get it working in our environment.
