Do you or an agency you know of use Streetmap Premium with 911 or NG 911 Police/Fire/EMS Dispatch systems?

We are in the process of deploying StreetMap Premium in our 9-1-1 dispatch center here in Glendale, CA. The first issue that we have encountered has to do with the geographic extent of the original data set which is the state of California. The main concern is performance degradation based on the original extent of the "out -of-the-box" data set. We would prefer to have smaller geo-extent and we are looking for ways to clip the original extent from statewide to countywide. We have reached out to ESRI for guidance/help in this task.

Hi Oscar,

Which CAD software product do you use for your 911 dispatch?

We are running and old version of Northrop Grumman CommandPointCAD (Cobol-based) with an Altaris Mapping system.

We are also in the process of upgrading CommandPoint to its latest release along with upgrading the mapping component (ViewPoint) to leverage the use of ESRI’s ArcGIS server technology to publish and consume services to provide mapping, address validation and routing services.

In terms of our issue with clipping the StreetMap Premium data to a smaller extent, we have reached out to ESRI to see what can be done in this respect. According to ESRI, the original geographic extent of the dataset does not impact the performance of the routing algorithms because the algorithms dynamically generate the extent of the dataset to be used by the routing algorithm based on the beginning/ending stops for any given route.
