I would like to be able to generate QR codes for individual stops on a self-guided tour within a Story in StoryMaps. I work in parks and we have signs near particular natural features and would like patrons to be guided to specific points, rather than entire stories when they scan a QR code. Is this possible? As far as I can tell the link that can be generated once the story is published is for the story map itself, and cannot be tailored to guide to a specific part of the story.
Hi Owen,
I think i might've misunderstood the difference between headings and the story navigation function.
I thought the headings were the same as the "story navigation" function, where it says on the app that it is only possible to make 10 of those.
I cant link to a title heading in my StoryMap for some reason. According a to this article, you should be able to hover over your heading and then it will give you the option to create a link for that specific heading, but it doesnt do that for me.
At first, i thought it was because I used the sidecar function. But it doesn't want to do it with any titles i make, if i make a seperate one or one for a guided tour either. Do you know what the cause of this could be?
@fynboen -- Note that you need to be viewing a published story (not editing it) to see the copy link button while hovering over a heading. This is shown in the video, but that article could be clearer about indicating this detail. I'll chat with the author about getting that updated.
I'm still not sure where you saw in the app that it says you can only use 10 headings for story navigation. Below are screenshots of what I see in the Story navigation settings and in the documentation topic Add story navigation. Please be specific and provide a screenshot of the place you see a reference to there being a limit of 10 story navigation links because we'd like to correct that.
Hi Owen!
It is written in Danish, but when you click on "properties" (the gears):
this pops up:
It says: "Up to 10 headings can be added as navigation links. The limit is 30 characters per link"
Thanks for clarifying, but for some reason my headings does not make any heading links.
Does it work for you? I've published the story already:

Ah, ok -- you didn't mention you are using ArcGIS StoryMaps on ArcGIS Enterprise. 🙂 Yes, there was a limit of 10 nav links in ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.1, but that limit was increased to 30 at version v10.9 (and was increased in the Online version in Sept 2020).
Also, the link to heading feature is a newer feature and has not been added to Enterprise yet, but our current plan is to add it for ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1.
Oops, my bad. Thanks for the help!
