How to embed a Qualtrics survey onto a story map

We had made a (classic) story map and embedded short Qualtrics survey next to each map to collect feedback. There was a reason for us to not to use the Survey 123 at the time.

Now we decided to split the story map into smaller chunks (too long) to make multiple shorter story maps but we could not replicate the story maps. We then decided to try converting the classic one to the new one or remaking those from scratch using the new story maps platform, we were not able to embed the Qualtrics surveys. When we put in the URL ( as Iframe) it it says that the page can not display the interactive content and it only puts in a link to the survey instead of the embedded short survey like it did not classic. Any ideas what we are doing wrong here?  Surveys are short but there are many of them so we didn't want to recreate them all in survey 123. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

@DrPala -- There are currently some additional restrictions when adding embeds to sidecar narrative panels. This is because of the limited space as well as performance concerns of loading too much 3rd party content from outside the story. We are looking at a few ways to open this up a bit more since there are some lightweight embeds that can work well in narrative panels (such as surveys), but that's not planned until 2022.

For now, as long as Qualtrics otherwise permits embedding and meets web security requirements, you should be able to embed your surveys inline in the main part of your story (just not in an immersive block).

@OwenGeo  Thank you for your response.

This is disappointing as this news article says that we should be able to display live content inline (no mention of the restriction on the immersive block).

At this point i have two questions to help find a solution:

1. if we were to recreate the surveys using Survey123, would we be able to display them on the immersive block?

2. If we keep the Story Map on the classic site as it is now, is it possible to make copies of it to recreate shorter versions. We were not able to make a copies of the classic story and edit it. I am not sure if this is due to the classic being retired or if it is something with the permissions. (the classic story map is set as public).

Thank you for any help you can provide.

@DrPala -- I apologize that this isn't what you were expecting. However, that article you referenced does describe this restriction (see screenshots, below). The surveys are considered "simple" embeds and the table indicates they display as cards in sidecar narrative panels.

1. Survey123 forms qualify as "simple" embeds, so they also currently display as cards in sidecar narrative panels. Note again that you can add either type of survey inline in the main part of the story and show them as live embeds.

2. I'm not sure what tool you are using to make copies of the classic story, but if you use the new ArcGIS Assistant, you should be able to edit the copies. There is nothing about their retirement that should affect that.

@OwenGeo Do you know if there are any other survey sites that qualify as simple embeds which are displayed as a live card and if so, if there's a list of them that we can find online

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous User -- To clarify the terminology... A live embed is an embed that loads within the story. A card is essentially a nice-looking link that displays a title, description, and thumbnail that can be clicked to open the content in a new browser tab.

To answer your question...what you are looking for is something in the rich embed category because you want it to display live in the narrative panel of a sidecar.

You can browse or search the full list of rich embed sites here. It looks like TypeForm is a survey provider that is supported as a rich/live embed. Below is an example of a TypeForm survey embedded in a sidecar narrative panel.

I hope this helps!
