I am trying to understand how these three configuration tools work on the backend. I don't see a whole lot of information out there on how to connect to an existing database. Do they allow connection to and customization of the database fields to control what is displayed to the front-facing users?

Hi Robert.

These three solutions all use same foundational feature service called TrafficControlDevices.  It is created when you deploy one of the solutions, for example, signs.  Then, when you deploy signals and streetlights these solutions will connect to the existing TrafficControlDevices feature service in your content.

These solutions do not connect to a existing third party database.  The expectation is that data would be loaded into the feature service that is created on deployment.  You can adjust the settings in the provided view layers to control what is displayed to front-facing users.

For more information about our traffic control devices solutions check our this blog.  It may also be worth checking the new Solutions Diagrams that have been added the solutions app. These diagrams help users quickly understand dependencies between items within individual solutions.

Feel free to reach out to me if you would like more details or want to discuss options to customize the solutions.
