problem with map appearing on emulator / macbook

set up emulator according to new instruction in blog.

app runs fine on real device.  all activities work fine in the emulator except the map activity - no map appears.  instead it looks like this.

here is what the virtual device looks like.

using eclipse, maverick OS.

any ideas on why the map isn't appearing?

I have the same setting and I actually saw this https://www.dropbox.com/s/7x4bfehp0xzo171/map.tiff , but then it recovered and the map displayed
