using SQL in Feature Service groupBy

Hello,

I'm using the query operation on a hosted feature service and would like to use an SQL clause in the groupByFieldsForStatistics parameter, e.g. 'SUBSTRING(ObservationDate, 1, 4)'

If not, does anyone have ideas for a different approach?
