Image service will not start

I have an image service that consists of one image mosaic dataset.  When I try to start the image service I get the following error:

Configuration BLF/BLF2009Mosaic.ImageServer can not be started.
Server Object instance creation failed on machine 'machinename'.

...where 'machinename' is the name of our ArcGIS Server.

I'm not understanding the problem from the error message.  What can I do to fix this?

Can you please make sure the arcgis server has read access to the mosaic data set. For example if the data resides of a machine different from the arcgis server machine, make sure it is referenced via UNC path when creating the service.
