I am doing a supervised classification on a rather large raster image and the classification process is taking several hours. I'm looking for advice on how to speed it up.

Thanks

Jeff... machine specs? image size/type? what tool(s) are you using exactly?

Windows 10, 16GB RAM, 133 GB free disk space, 64-bit OS, x64 based processor.

I am using the Classification Tool - Segmentation. Although the same slow performance occurs when going through the Classification wizard.

The file I'm doing the classification on is an XML file which I believe points to several tiles - each having their own .tif, .tfw. .xml, and a .ovr file. I've attached a screenshot showing the files.

Well they are big, and I am sure that if you are using your system monitor, that the hard drive useage is probably quite active.

Processing in batches, mosaic dataset (others can wade in on that) may be your only solution.  I also suspect 16 Gig should be the new minimum since your operating system and browser can suck up a lot before you even get going
