Hello! Looking to consult the hive mind on this question - thank you for any insight you can provide!

Context:

I have a .svg file that I've downloaded and I'd like to overlay it onto a .svg file that I export from a map I have in ArcGIS Pro 3.3.1. In order to do this, I'll need to use the same projection in ArcGIS Pro that was used for the .svg file I downloaded. The metadata for the file I downloaded comes with the following information:

Equirectangular projection, N/S stretching 118 %. Geographic limits of the map:

  • N: 37.0° N
  • S: 26.8° N
  • W: 78.2° E
  • E: 99.5° E

I understand that the Equirectangular projection is referred to as the "Plate Carrée projection" (WKID 32662) in Pro. However, I haven't come across "N/S stretching 118%" before. My best guess (which I stand to be corrected on!) is that I'll need to scale the projection vertically somehow to be able to overlay the two maps without any distortion. Granted, I could do this manually after the .svg file is created, but then the points in the map from Pro become ovals rather than circles, so I'd like to avoid this if possible.

Question:

What would be the best way to take a predetermined projection (e.g. Plate Carree) and scale it vertically by a particular percentage, as is suggested in the metadata for this file? Is this even possible in ArcGIS Pro?

ArcGIS Pro doesn’t have a direct option to scale a projection vertically by a percentage. For your case with N/S stretching 118%, you could try manually adjusting the export or use a vector editor afterward to scale without distortion. Alternatively, consider custom scripting with ArcPy to fine-tune the projection.o fine-tune the projection.

Thanks @Matrio, that's pretty much what I expected - much appreciated!
