A workaround for a non-working tool is to disable background geoprocessing. The chat-bot directs you a check box in the Geoprocessing Options. However, there IS NO SUCH CHECKBOX to enable/disable background geoprocessing.

Any insights on turning off background geoprocessing?

The non-working tool is "Apply Symbology from Layer" in batch mode.

Thanks a heap,

that was for arcmap (aka desktop), not for arcgis Pro

Perhaps the error itself lies in the symbology and/or the data to which it is applied.

Does it work for single inputs?

Doe it fail for one particular dataset?

Thanks for the reply. The chat-bot reply specifically referenced ArcGIS Pro as well the desktop version as a "known issue". The symbology and feature layer are fine, the layer works in other projects. The Apply Symbology From Layer tool works in single-use mode (not batch) as well. The failure is that it only makes the change on the last layer in the batch input list.

In ArcGIS Pro, background geoprocessing cannot be disabled as it is designed to run geoprocessing tasks in the background to allow you to continue working on other tasks. This is different from ArcMap, where you could choose to disable background geoprocessing.
