Hy,

I have some questions about Maplex.

  • Does Maplex evolve at the same time as ArcGIS Desktop/Pro?
  • ArcGIS Desktop uses the same Maplex Version as ArcGIS Pro? For example between ArcGIS Desktop 10.4 and ArcGIS Pro ?

I ask this because I notice differences in rendering between the two products.

Thanks,

Flavie

Hi Flavie,

The Maplex Label engine is kept in sync between the latest releases of ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro.  If you are seeing differences please send examples.

thanks

Wendy

Hy Wendy,

Here are the differences between ArcGIS Desktop/PRO for a same Maplex configuration and same data.

ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2 side ==> Have a look on texts highlighted in red

ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2 side

ArcGIS Pro 1.3 side ==> Have a look on texts highlighted in yellow

ArcGSI Pro 1.3 side

The difference is on ArcGIS Pro side it miss some texts.

Is it the same version of Maplex between ArcGIS Pro 1.3 and ArcGIS Desktop 10.2.2?

Thanks,

Flavie

they aren't the latest releases of pro and arcmap (1.4.1 and 10.5).  Was your pairing of pro 1.3 and map 10.2.2 and equivalent pairing at the time?

ArcGIS Pro was first released with ArcGIS Desktop 10.3. And What's new in ArcGIS Desktop 10.3 (Labeling) include

The Maplex Label Engine in ArcGIS 10.3 has improved stability, scalability, and performance.

Placement improvements include the following:

  • Improved integration between street labeling and key numbering
  • Better placement along curved roads and rivers
  • Labels using the Never Remove parameter have improved faster placement
  • Improvements in aligning contour labels to the page and elevation
  • Labels with callouts and leaders now take halos into account when placing and have improved performance

So you can expect some difference between ArcMap 10.2.2 and ArcGIS Pro.

Have you compared labeling between ArcMap 10.4.x and ArcGIS Pro 1.3?
