ArcGIS Pro 2.7: The “extend” tool fails to extend particular lines,

I couldn’t figure out why “extend” tool fails to extend particular lines.

What could be the issue here?

are they the only ones that didn't get extended?

Did you try extending only one side of the line?  maybe it gets confused when trying to extend 2 segments that are trying to extend

Did the others work in the vicinity of those that did?

Is the distance for extending less than the gap distance?

Need to establish some condition where the extending didn't work

Per the GP tool documentation:

"This tool extends line segments to the first intersecting feature within a specified distance."

I took a look at your sample data, and while this doesn't address all the issues you're having, I noticed some of your lines are overlapping. In those spots, the line doesn't need to extend at all to hit an intersecting feature, so it doesn't, and then it has no extensions that other adjacent lines would hit within the entered distance, either.

Try removing your overlapping lines and run it again, see if that fixes things.

If in fact there are overlapping lines in your data, you may want to run the Planarize command first to see if that resolves some of your errors you're seeing in the data, then run the Extend Lines GP tool.  What is the result?

As raw CAD data comes with circles, lines, and text out of which parcels are assumed to be derived. The following approach is followed

• All lines inside circles are erased (to clean them)
• Lines are extended by 1.5 (I assume that lines will extend from each end by 0.75)
• Lines are converted to polygons
• Texts are transferred to polygons

To better track the issue, I created simple data (attached) so that I can figure out what’s happening. The “extend” tool is still perplexing. It fails to wok even. Lines fails to extend

The “Planarize” appears not to be available in model builder

I can see why lines on a corner or some between two segments don't extend since there is no line to extend to.  Perhaps the segment being extended has to extend to an actual feature within the distance and not where another feature would be IF it were extended to.

Also, what happens if you cut out the deleting the segments in the holes. 

What is the purpose of that? 

Is it to remove redundant vertices?

Are segments on either side not part of the same geometry?

Are the circles placed without cleaning up the polylines first?

The reason why I wanted to first erase whatever inside circles is that the CAD data is really “dirty”. It happens that lines are already extended somehow inside circle. So, I need first to clip lines and then to extend them to make sure all goes fine.

The trim never solve the issue.

Welll.... perhaps cleaning it up in the Cad software would minimize a lot of the defects prior to bringing it into ArcGIS Pro. 

I don't imagine Pro was designed as a cleanup tool for other software.
