It came to me that there is no mxd viewer not related to another extension (like publisher), with little functionality such as open dataset and select attribute (pointer, buffer or simple SQL). I don't mean a pdf or an exported document in another format. More like being able to open an mxd in ArcExplorer.
We have several Arc Info and ArcView licenses but when one of the end-user in our department wants to just have a look at an MXd we have to shut one license down for him to just look at his screen.
It would be really convenient to have a basic viewer.
ArcGIS Desktop is in mature support and will be retired March 1, 2026 so we won’t be considering this idea. We recommend that you migrate to ArcGIS Pro, our fully supported desktop GIS application.
