I love that we can now start using Pro without saving the project first.  If I do end up saving the project I would have previously made a folder (to follow our request structure).

The problem is that this then creates a whole new folder system within the folder system that already exists.

The solution: Bring back the tick box that is currently available when you create a new project allowing you to choose if you want to create a new folder for this project.

Adding another voice to the plea for this. It seems like such a simple dev win. As others have said the functionality is obviously there, just give us access to it. How am I supposed to explain to non ESRI colleagues the unnecessary bloat of folders that the software creates just..."cos"?

It would be great if this gets available soon and thus to be able to save the aprx file without being saved (by default) in a folder nor creating other unnecessary files (like gdb, tbx, etc.)

ArcGIS Pro allows in "Options" >> "General" >> "Create project" to uncheck "Create a folder for the project". This works fine if the project is started with a template like a Map, Catalog, etc. However, if the Option "Start without a template" is chosen, you cannot just save the .aprx file in your pre-defined project structure. Using "Start without a template" and saving the project later will always create a new project folder (let's not discuss the default naming policy).

We strongly suggest to honor the chosen settings and to NOT create a project folder, even if one has started without a template.

Just to keep this idea active. This is desperately needed, most organisations have their own folder structures in place for managing and collaborating on GIS data. The project concept encourages people to work outside of these standards with their data in silos. It also causes particular issues when working on projects that use BIM collaboration software such as Autodesk Constructions Cloud with very controlled folder structures where you just cannot have ArcGIS Pro deciding to create additional folders. All we need is the aprx and nothing else.

Upvote from me.  I often start ArcGIS Pro without a template to complete quick one-off tasks.  The work is ephemeral and a file/folder isn't necessary to complete these tasks.  Sometimes though, what I think will be a quick one-off task turns into something larger and I end up needing to save my workspace.  It would be great to have the option to save just the APRX file instead of the project folder structure in this scenario.  I've already changed the global setting in Pro to point all projects to a single custom default GDB and Toolbox so I don't need a folder to contain these items in a project folder.  Please listen to your user and implement this idea!

Please, for all the same reasons already listed here, implement this idea!

Also here to keep this necessary feature on the screen!

As mentioned before, we have an existing folder structure which is well established. If we get data storage in lots of different silos with automatic path-setting etc. we will get data inconsistencies, storage waste and a lot of confusion.

There is several threads requesting this feature, with this one being nearly 5 years old now. (e.g. https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-questions/save-arcpro-project-without-a-new-folder-created/...)

This behaviour makes us really hesitant for a transition and has put the process on hold for now.

All workarounds with setting paths for default gdbs and Toolboxes via the config-file do not lead to a single .aprx file saved. Forcing ArcGIS Pro to start with a default project-file that is stored in a read-only location might be a solution but is not configurable and lockable via the config-file and must be done by hand with the danger of users changing it...

So please: Either implement as requested, where none of us sees any harm and it might be a benefit to your customers or at least provide us/implement a more or less working work-around, as this is really frustrating to solve with the given features.
