In Arc, it is very quick and easy for me to draw (not create a 3d line feature), emphasis on click one button and start drawing, a line, hit another button, and have a graph, or 3. Where this comes in handy, in an urgent, time-sensitive situation, is when deciding how to route rescue teams in steep, densely vegetated mountainous terrain in off trail searches. In about 10 seconds I'm able to produce the "yeah, we're not gonna do that" graph, the "well it will be easy coming down" graph, and the "is the helicopter flying today?" graph. I can even (very quickly) do mean things like set the horizontal axis to Logarithmic to create the "doesn't look too steep we can do this" graph. Looks like this has been brought up in the past: Loss of line profile tool in ArcGIS Pro?  , 3D Profile in ArcGIS Pro with no answer, or "Interactive line profiling is not yet available in ArcGIS Pro, it will be added in a future release. Around the 1.2-1.3 time frame.", which doesn't appear to be the case. The existing Profile tools in Pro either take way to many steps, do not produce manipulatable output like you can in Arc unless you choose the Stack Profile tool, and export to Excel, or the Create Chart tool, which does not allow exporting to Excel. Looks like Profile Tools in general need a lot more development before Pro can be considered an "Arc Map Replacement": Elevation Profile ImprovementBatch export profile charts from ArcGIS Pro? , modify defaults for Point Profile Graph , profile graph in ArcGIS pro 2.0

Yes, I can hit the pencil button and "interactively" draw my lines, then I have to wrestle with chart options (make your own), or export the table: neither of which I have to do with the interactive profile tool in Arc.

Implemented in ArcGIS Pro 2.7 with the interactive elevation profile tool. See https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/pro-add-the-profile-graph-tool-as-it-works-in-arcmap/idc-p/1010420/highlight/true#M14600

Just wondering if this idea was implemented in ArcGIS Pro....where is the export to table option that is available in ArcGIS Desktop? Not very useful unless this option is available.

Thanks.

KoryKramer

Hi @MSearle You are correct that the export to table is not yet available.  The primary functionality is currently available in Pro 2.7 and the export to table functionality is planned to come in 2.8.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but hopefully we'll see this in the next release.

Thank you.

Hi @KoryKramer - that would be Great! thanks for the update!

@KoryKramernow the functionality is available but only in a rudimentary wy! I hope it will improved soon.

I think about:

  • adding divers datasets to one profile graph (point cloud, tin, raster, vektor etc.)
  • export to picture, svg, ai, DXF (!), excel/data
  • definining attributes like a scale

KoryKramer

There are a number of these covered in https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/elevation-profile-improvement/idi-p/928284 and I see you've commented there as well!  I know that the team is looking at supporting multiple lines per multiple surfaces in a future release, which I believe is the first point on that other idea "Multi-Surface Display (with options for filling in between surfaces"

However, there are a number of other individual requests in that single idea that it is impossible to know what is most important to users supporting it.

It would be best to submit distinct requests for specific functionality requested, as described in the ArcGIS Ideas Submission Guidelines and Statuses

Thank you!

News?

KoryKramer

Hi @Simonez

@NathanShephard provided an update over on https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/elevation-profile-improvement/idc-p/1139238/highlight...

Any specifics about what is lacking in the current Elevation Profile tool that are specific for your workflows would be great to provide on that thread. Please do that so we can understand how to make the tool work better for you.

Thank you

hello,

at the moment it is nice but still rudimentary! it's far from an expert tool, as we need.

very important are:

- analyze multilple datasources (dtm, raster, vector data)

- analyze one line dynamically (like in the moment) and numerous lines

- define x/y scale

- export to dxf

Hi @KoryKramer

Thank you for your reply. I can't find this tool, see also

https://community.esri.com/t5/arcgis-pro-ideas/elevation-profile-improvement/idc-p/1151640#M18937

Anyway, what I do need is something like the old school Profile tool from ArcMap. You select the DTM in the tool, you draw a line (always on map view), you press the graph button and voilà, you got your topographic profile. We don't need fancy thing, just a quick way to do a simple profile. Still have to open ArcMap for doing it. I am surprised that Pro misses such a basic tool. With that said, maybe this works as fine (and maybe better): https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/mapping/exploratory-analysis/interactive-elevation-pro... but can't find it. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the response @Simonez If all you need is a way to create an elevation profile, the current tool will work for you. From the help that you referenced see this paragraph:

Have you added your DTM as an elevation surface to the map? Once you do that, you can find the Elevation Profile from the Exploratory 3D Analysis split button.
