It would be great if ArcMap would allow users to directly edit a spatial extent of data instead of the entire dataset. Definition queries could be used but when spatial extent is needed, it is dangerous to have users always editing the full geometry fabric. It is very easy to move features in a selection and not know when the mouse drags across the screen.
Would be nice if ArcMap had a feature like AutoCAD Map has had for a decade, query a window of data, edit it and send it back back reconcile, post!
