ArcGIS Pro Roadmap - November 2023

ArcGIS Pro 3.2 was released on November 7, 2023. For information on the latest updates, please see the ArcGIS Pro 3.2 Release Notes.

Our goal is to build the best GIS software available. This ArcGIS Pro Roadmap* gives you a sneak peek of what we're focusing on for the near-, mid- and long-term of ArcGIS Pro development. This gives our current estimate of when each capability will be released. Some new capabilities will be made available for testing through the Early Adopter Community prior to a release. We'll revise the roadmap throughout the year to ensure it reflects the latest information.

Near-Term (next release or two)

Portal Projects for ArcGIS Pro - Use your Portal to share projects, collaborate and work more effectively with others in your organization.

Flood Simulation Modeling - Model flooding scenarios for an area of interest in 3D to better understand, and plan for, potential futures.

Presentations - Create and share a collection of map and scene views along with titles, graphics, and descriptive text as presentations.

Feature Templates in the Database – Ability to store feature templates authored in ArcGIS Pro in a database and use within ArcGIS Pro, or outside of ArcGIS Pro through a Feature Service.

Offline Utility Networks - Take a utility network offline to enable field crew workflows and also allow users to work on a local copy in the office and sync with the service when work is complete.

Digitized Direction Tracing - Trace a utility network with or against digitized direction without the need to configure subnetwork controllers.

Layer & Feature Effects - Apply visual effects such as blur and drop shadow to layers or a subset of features for emphasis.

Connect to NoSQL Databases - Connect directly to OpenSearch databases to query, visualize and analyze data in ArcGIS Pro.

Upgrade Python to 3.11 -  Upgrade ArcGIS Pro's Python from 3.9 to 3.11. Also upgrade most of Python's site-packages.

Suitability Modeler: Reporting - The Suitability Modeler reporting capability allows the user to create a summary report of a suitability model that can be given to managers and stakeholders. The report includes a flow diagram of the model, the final suitability and locate maps and their definitions, maps, plots, statistics, and user defined text of the input criteria, the applied transformations, and the desired statistics from the evaluation of the model.

Time Series Cross Correlation – A new spatial statistics tool to find correlations between two time series. Additionally, we will add support for lagged correlations meaning if one time series changes but the effect on the correlated time series has a lag, the tool can still detect those correlations. For example, correlations between GDP and Government Spending, lagged correlation between rainfall and water levels, and so on.

Reliable Rates – Often when rates are calculated, the value of the denominator can significantly impact the rates – for example, if you are calculating rates with population as a denominator, areas with very small populations can result in very high rate values and vice-versa. This new rate smoothing geoprocessing tool will employ a widely used statistical method to reduce the impact of extreme rates by smoothing and shrinking them towards the overall reference population values and can also learn from spatial neighbors’ values to calculate reliable rates. 

Multi-object Tracking in FMV - Ability to efficiently detect and track multiple objects in full motion video using OC-SORT and ByteTrack models.

Nautical Paper Charts - Provides the ability to efficiently generate customizable IHO S-4 compliant charts leveraging Electronic Nautical Chart (ENC) data.

Native ArcGIS IPS - The data required to enable ArcGIS IPS will be represented by a set of tables and feature classes in a new Indoor Positioning Dataset that can be consumed in ArcGIS Pro for visual inspection and spatial analysis. The new Indoor Positioning Dataset is floor-aware and supports multi-site indoor environments. An Indoor Positioning Dataset can be shared through ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise and associated with one or more maps through a new "IPS" map property, allowing maps to be IPS-enabled.

Import IFC 3D data to the Indoors Model - Allow users to import 3D multipatch features from IFC to the Indoors model as part of the Import IFC To Indoor Dataset tool.

Mid-term (next two or three releases)

AI Assistants – ArcGIS Pro users get support from AI assistants in several areas. The chatbot for help provides workflow instructions and answers questions about ArcGIS Pro while semantic search makes it easier to find the right geoprocessing tools and commands.

Timeline View - Visualize your data along a temporal axis. Timelines complement the spatial view of your data on the map by showing where in time your data falls. By plotting your data along a timeline, you can understand the temporal order of your data and discern temporal trends that emerge.

Share Web Layers from NoSQL Databases - Share data from OpenSearch databases to ArcGIS Enterprise as web layers.

Point Cloud Scene Layer Data Management - Add, Delete, Change very large point cloud services based on reference data sources.

Roof Editing in Stereo - Tools specifically designed to create and edit pitches, ridge lines, gables and other roof specific features.  

Materials Authoring - Author properties to support reflectivity, roughness and other properties for more photo-realistic visualizations in 3d scenes.

Oriented Imagery – Inspection Workflow and AI Integration - Inspection workflows added to Pro to enable collection of features in image space as part of inspection workflows. Tight integration with ArcGIS Image Analyst Extension based AI workflows for creating training data, training models and inferencing. Integration with pre-trained models such as face blurring, car number plate blurring as well as a range of feature extraction such as road signs. Users will be able to drive to a collection of images, features or labels to collect or review attributes.

Mesh Segmentation Models - Mesh Segmentation will provide the ability to train and use deep learning models for identifying parts of a 3D mesh as objects such as trees, buildings or roofs.

Last Mile Delivery Solver - A new Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) solver that specifically optimizes the delivery of packages to their final destination for large delivery fleets. This solver is designed to solve much larger problem sizes than the current VRP solver as well as produce a solution designed around the needs of the package delivery companies for a well clustered and balanced workload.

Suitability Modeler: Comparison - The Suitability Modeler Compare functionality and user experience allows the user to compare a set of similar models. The user can compare two models or analyze a series of models relative to each other to explore where they are similar and where they differ to determine the best model.

Floor-aware Editing - Create a user experience for editing floor-aware maps and scenes in ArcGIS Pro.

Floor Plan Features from Point Clouds - Support taking point cloud data captured using building scan devices and extract floorplan features in the Indoors model.

IPS Emulator - Integrate an option to emulate the IPS engine available in Maps SDK directly within ArcGIS Pro. This will serve for quality assessment and parameter tuning to achieve better blue dot performance.

Aviation Terminal Charts - Terminal Charts are aeronautical charts used for navigation under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) that display the areas and airspaces surrounding airports.

Long-term (in the plan but not assigned to a release at this point)

Share ArcGIS Pro Model- Author a ModelBuilder model in ArcGIS Pro and share it as an item to ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. You will be able to view and run the model from a browser. You will also be able to download, view and run the model in ArcGIS Pro projects.

Terrain Editing -  Ability to interactively edit the ground or other surfaces.  Add, remove and replace data referenced by the surface.

High Fidelity Rendering - A series of display improvements to support more photo-realistic 3D scene visualizations.

3D Mesh as Ground - The ability to use integrated mesh or TIN information as a true triangulated ground surface that would be more precise than raster surfaces and allow structures such as tunnels and mines.

Integrated Mesh Scene Layer Data Management - Add, Delete, Change very large integrated mesh services based on SLPK.

Cloud Drive Support - Support storage of ArcGIS Pro files and data in common cloud drives like OneDrive and Google Drive.

Oriented Imagery – Live Video Superposition - Superposition of live video streams onto surfaces of objects (flashlight mode) enabling live representation of scenes from multiple image sources.

Reading Alignments from IFC - Building Smart International is actively working on expanding the IFC standard to include more infrastructure support, including things like rail, tunnels, and roadways.  To address the anticipated needs, this project builds on our current capabilities to read 3D elements from IFC to include alignments and other linear elements as part of our BIM model support.

Infrastructure-less IPS - ArcGIS IPS will not rely on the installation of dedicated hardware.

Waste Pickup Solver - A new Vehicle Routing Problem solver to support the residential waste pickup workflow. This new solver will allow for a high density of order locations so every house on the street could be visited and the street edges routed in an efficient manner. This solver will also support business constraints such as capacity of the vehicles, following driver time regulations, and emptying the vehicle mid-route and before the return to the depot at the end of the day.


For Portal Projects, how will those projects work with a default geodatabase? Will that be a portal hosted database?
