How to undertake Spatial upgrade in ArcGIS Pro Parcel Fabric

Hi Parcel Editors, Can anyone point me towards a video demonstration or tutorial of spatial upgrade (improvement) of a section of ArcPRO Parcel Fabric being undertaken?

The scenario I am after is when a section of Parcel Fabric was originally built using inaccurate linework and the GIS officer wants to upgrade the spatial representation of that section by entering correct COGO information for the lots from the source survey.  The existing PF parcel lines have no COGO attribution, are mis-shaped and not in their true coordinate position.

Currently we maintain our cadastral records in an Arcmap environment.  We have a line and polygon feature classes in a topology (Not parcel fabric).  To undertake spatial improvement, we replot the line dataset by COGO from a coordinated position and then rebuild the polygon feature class to match.

I am trying to understand the best way to undertake this process in ArcGIS Pro parcel Fabric.  In Australia we call this process "Spatial Upgrade" but it may be known by other terms internationally.

Hi

In the Pro parcel fabric I would first create a parcel fabric point with the  coordinated position. Then I would traverse in the new lines, starting from the point you just added. You can create many traverses sequentially to traverse in parcel line loops. Once you have created the line loops, you would then build parcels from the lines.

You dont necessary have to use the parcel traverse, you could also use the 2Point line tool to create lines with dimensions - there are several ways in pro to COGO in lines with dimensions.

If you have points with known coordinates - you can run a least-squares adjustment after building parcels to evaluate and improve the spatial accruacy of all the parcel corner points.

Hi Christine

Thanks for the reply.  I will spend some time and go through the links you have posted.  I undertook the "Working with parcel data in ArcGIS Pro" last year and i am reasonable comfortable with the workflow for creating new lines from COGO entry and then creating NEW parcels from those lines.

What i am currently struggling with is when the parcels i want to update are existing but with inaccurate boundary definition.  How do i best apply a new COGO boundary definition to an existing lot?  Is it possible to "replace" the lines that a parcel is built on or do i need to create a separate cogo traverse and then align the existing parcel to it?

Hi Phil

Yes there are tools you can use to reconstruct parcels from updated linework. But this might result in misalignments with adjacent parcels that you will then need to fix. So you will have to decide what is going to be quicker - reconstructing parcels or COGOing them all in from scratch.

The tools you would use to recontruct parcels would be the Shrink To Seeds tool and the Reconstruct from Seeds tool:

The workflow from your attached link looks like a solution.  I will have a play in my parcel fabric sandpit.

I would still love to see a video of this type of quality workflow if one could be created in the future.
